It is with much sadness that BGL Rieber reports the death of company founder, Terry Barrett-Gray, (77).
Terry moved from Sales Director of stainless steel equipment manufacturer Stellex to found Barrett-Gray Limited in 1987.
Barrett-Gray specialised solely in food transportation and distribution equipment from German manufacturer Rieber and quickly established itself as the leading authority in schools, hospitals, prisons and staff feeding sectors.
Along the way, it established the now ubiquitous orange Thermoport box as the product of choice.
Barrett-Gray Limited later became BGL Rieber Limited in 2002, expanding its product portfolio to include a wider range of Rieber products, including the Varithek front cooking system and distributing Metos cooking kettles and prime cooking equipment and Nordien dishroom equipment to the UK.
“Anyone working in schools, hospitals, prisons and staff feeding sector has almost certainly had the benefit of either using Rieber equipment or being served from it,” says BGL Rieber MD Gareth Newton.
“Terry was at the centre of major changes to the ‘cost sector’ catering industry from the late 80’s onwards and he is remembered for his integrity and passionate belief that, given quality equipment and by working together as a team, we can jointly help improve the nation’s health.”
Terry is survived by his wife Christine, children and grandchildren.
