Homerton hospital chooses Rieber Varithek front cooking to launch meals outside on 75th NHS anniversary

Homerton Hospital Hackney London launches a meals service catering in the hospital grounds on the same day the NHS celebrated its 75 years.

Using a Rieber Varithek front cooking station with induction wok and flat hob modules, operating with one chef and two assistants, Homerton cooked up a menu including stir-fried noodles, burgers and chicken wings with BBQ sauce.

Hospital staff queued up keen to try out the new style catering operation headlined by the value offer of a portion of stir-fried noodles @ just 95p.

“This is the first time we have ever catered outside the building, and just look at the queue of people; it’s fantastic,” said Stuart Hugill, Key Account Manager, ISS Facility Services UK.

“The restaurants inside the hospital are so popular they get crammed and this gives people a chance to enjoy their food outside in the fresh air.”

Martin McKeown, Homerton Hospital’s Catering Operations Manager ISS Facility Services UK added: “It’s only the first day, but you can see that catering outside has made a massive difference. It gets people away from their desks, gives them different food and a different concept, promotes interaction and gets them talking together.”

The Rieber Varithek ACS (air clean system) Front Cooking Station is mobile and small enough to easily fit through standard doorways. It works with cooking modules, including induction woks and hobs, Ceran hobs, single and double griddles, pasta cookers and fryers.

Varithek ACS, combined with optional self-ventilation and fire suppression, means it can operate anywhere there is a power source, inside or out.
