The Central Production Unit at Treorchy in the Rhondda Valley operated by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has just added a 300-litre Metos Proveno combination cooking kettle, making a total of eight kettles at this one site.
Treorchy provides a cook chill and cook freeze catering service for the whole of Cwm Taf Health board.
The unit uses a mix of Metos combi tilting kettles, plus other equipment from Rieber including bratt pans, ovens and some boilers.
Says BGL Rieber Regional Sales Manager Tim Howard, “Metos Proveno 4G combi kettles are serious heavy-duty bulk cooking appliances, with capacities from 40-400 litres. Used by large hotels, in-flight caterers, hospitals, restaurant production kitchens as well as CPUs, they are also popular with food manufacturers and makers of sandwich fillings, jams and chutneys.
“Curry is one of the most popular dishes at Treorchy and the kettles are ideal for cooking this type of food.
The Proveno 4G combi kettles are fully self-stirring and can also whip and mix ingredients with ease. Recipes can be stored and reused, ensuring consistent, repeatable results every time.
When used without heat, the kettles are ideal for preparing bread doughs and cake batters. When heat is applied, they can boil or simmer, mash potatoes, par-fry, and produce dishes such as stews and curries. They are also effective for breaking down minced meat for pie fillings and sealing larger cuts of meat prior to oven roasting.

The kettles can be programmed to start automatically, allowing preparation to begin at a time that suits the operator. This means staff can arrive to find freshly made porridge or ready-to-use bread dough waiting for them.
